Dog’s Name: Hucho

I spent a number of years exploring and fishing in Slovenia, in Eastern Europe.  A few of the larger rivers there are populated with a fish called a Hucho Hucho, relative of the more famous Mongolian Taimen (Hucho Taimen).  I was initially turned on to fly fishing in Slovenia by a close friend, Ryan Smalls, who is married to an awesome Slovenian skier named Anda.  Their family lab was named Soca, after the Soca River in Slovenia. While I was chasing Hucho Hucho in Slovenia, I received note from Ryan explaining that Soca’s litter of puppies had arrived, and that one of them would be ready for pick up when I returned home. I can’t remember if it was on this exact date, but within a very short time of receiving this news, I landed my first Hucho – a fish I had been working to catch for a few years.  After returning home I stopped by the Small’s residence and picked out the little guy below – the wild man – Hucho.

Home: Rock Creek Anglers, Saddlestring WY

Owner: Clark Smyth

Surrounded by some of the best grasshopper fishing Wyoming has to offer, Hopper is well named.
